Stories With Significance: June and July 2008
Imagine you’re taking a school assembly, or a lesson, or just talking to a bunch of young people. It’s hard to get very far without telling a story. Maybe it’s the day you got stuck in a lift and realised you believed in God; the drama of Mother Teresa’s life or your favourite tale of the day potatoes took over the world. Stories are the way we communicate and you can’t work with children or teenagers without telling a lot of them.
So why are they so hard to tell well? Storytelling is a skill, something to be practised and developed. That’s why, in June and July 2008, we’re holding a series of creative training days: to inspire and equip Christian schools and youth workers to tell bigger, brighter and better stories that communicate the biggest story of all.
The days include input from the The Credo Storytellers, a group of Christian performing artists working in the fields of television, film, poetry, theatre and education. Alongside them will be the team from schoolswork.co.uk. There’ll be sessions on creating stories from scratch, telling stories in public, the particular challenges of the school assembly and how to tell the kind of tale that will captivate a teenager. We want the experience to transform both your confidence and ability when it comes to storytelling!
Each day runs on a Saturday from 10am through until 4pm, in four venues across the UK. Places are limited, so don’t hang around!
To reserve your ticket, you’ll need to book in advance through our online booking system. It’s £12 for the day online. If available, tickets on the day are £15.
We believe working in partnership is vital to good Christian ministry, so we’re linking with a local schools project in each area to help with organisation and hosting. The whole tour is also being run in conjunction with Youthwork the partnership, as part of their training programme.
