Lat Blaylock, one of the advisors from RE Today pointed out to me yesterday that last week was significant in that, for the first time in nearly 20 years, the Prime Minister mentioned RE in a speech. During his statement to the house on November 14th Gordon Brown made the following statement in the context of a speech on national security.
Last year we did a 35 min Christmas lesson for year 7. The school now has hour long lessons so I need more material. Does anyone have any tried and tested ideas?
I was recently asked if I could prepare a session for year 11 students at short notice on the topic of euthanasia. I didn't feel I had the resources to do the session at short notice but I did promise the member of staff I would look in to it and develop something that could be used in the future. Has anyone tackled this topic previously? Do you have any advice, tips, resources or activities that may be useful?

Ever been given that age old assembly topic of friendship? I've used this story in lots of schools with very positive results. I came across this in the resource section of Youthwork Magazine, summer 2006 - I tied it in with the football world cup in Germany. I shared this story with some of the other schools workers at the youthwork conference early day this year.
It's Saturday afternoon, we're enjoying manning the stand and hanging out and looking forward to tonight's school disco. The highlight of this whole experience has definitely been the people we've met.
