In RE, for example, there’s a resource on considering Moral and Social Dilemmas that includes material on Consumer ethics; Telling on friends; Yob culture; Age guidance for films; Explicit material in teenage magazines; Chat room dangers; Petty theft; Body decoration; Fame; Acceptable behaviour; Under-age sex; AIDS; Young parenthood; Genetic engineering; Curfews; Age of consent for heterosexual and homosexual sex; Freedom for young murderers; Paedophiles; Gay marriage; Cosmetic surgery; Fashion; The paranormal; Food safety; Conscience; Organ donation and misuse.
The material is generally written by practicing teachers, though not from a Christian perspective. Topics include Games and Puzzles for Keystage 3 RE, Easter Fun, Exploring Ideas of God and Prejudice. The PHSE section includes topics like anger management.
The good news is that each unit has a download sample or 7 or 8 pages that you can use for free, no strings attached. Nearly all of these samples includes worksheets that you can incorporate into a lesson for yourself. The anger management, for example, has a good worksheet on ‘It’s OK to be angry when…’ You simply enter your email address and you’ll be sent an email with a download link.
I think there’s some good material here, both as a free download and to purchase. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re preparing a lesson on a specific topic.
