Each month schoolswork.co.uk provide assembly and lesson resources in Youthwork magazine. In the December 2007 issue we have an assembly on ‘What does Christmas mean to you?’. Here’s the accompanying slideshow that you can play as students are coming into the assembly. You’ll need to set your preferred timings and transitions and add music if required.

Great thoughts, we’re going to be adapting these thoughts as the basis for some year 7-9 assemblies. Thanks
Chris
Really good. I have used this with whole school primary assemblies and as a lead up to a pupil led middle school assembly. For that we are doing a whole school questionnaire.
The responses from pupils have caused some heads to query how they teach RE because the responses have been purely ‘secular’. But the question did ask for what they felt and not what they had been taught.
Brilliant ideas keep them flowing.
I think the point about RE is very important here: a good activity is to give pupils 6 different ‘true meaning of Christmas’ quotes to rank, and then ask them to create one of their own. give them three Christian, one Muslim and two secular for fun.
As King Herod never said, Christmas is a time for the children.
