The powerful thing about the website is the collection of stories they have gathered about forgiveness, including Michael Watson, the boxer who was severely injured by Chris Eubank in 1991. He says: “I believe in the concept of forgiveness. It is always better to give than to receive. I’d like to think I’d feel the same if my injuries were the result of a vicious attack. Jesus is my inspiration. Christian or not, how can you fail to be moved by the words of Jesus on the cross: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” There are tons of others stories, all of themincredibly moving and powerful. The site is a great resource both for RE lessons and assemblies around the theme of forgiveness.

I’ve been using some of the footage from the Forgiveness Project as part of my high school assemblies this week. The response from pupils has been amazing as they have absorbed the stories and life-situations on the screen.
I led a 10 minute session - introducing the theme through a version of the Prodigal son. How many times did Jesus say we should forgive? Jesus used stories to make a point. Here are some very real stories around the ‘F’ word. Video shown. Invite pupils over 10 seconds or so to consider whether they need to forgive someone, do they need to ask for forgiveness from someone? Can they decide today to start that process? Footage is a highly recommended resource for a very real assembly.
