Sorry Board

Now this takes some preparation, but it’s worth it for the impact it has in a school assembly. For the week beforehand, create a sorry board somewhere in the school. It’s a place where students can write messages saying sorry for something they’ve done. Somewhere in the middle, have the word ‘sorry’ in large letters. You’ll need to explain what the board is there for, perhaps through a note to tutor groups. Even better, take it into tutor times and get students to write on it there and then. Ask students to make it anonymous. The board could be made from hardboard (painted white) or you could just use thick card. You’ll be surprised how honest students can be and, even if some comments don’t take it seriously, they can all be used when it comes to your assembly. It’s a great introduction to talking about saying sorry, forgiveness and honesty. As part of the assembly you could read out some of the contributions.
