What is Lifepath?

Lifepath is an exciting Scripture Union project which helps Christians connect with their local schools by inviting them to an event. Lifepath aims to give junior school pupils the opportunity to explore the Christian faith through the lifepath of a well known historic Christian with a link to the location and to use this as a springboard to encourage them to reflect on their own lifepath. For example, at Durham Cathedral the schools looked at the lifepath of St Cuthbert and at Olney they looked at John Newton and the abolition of slavery. Lifepath has also been run at:

•  Jervaulx Abbey (N Yorks), Wimborne Minster (Dorset) and Southend, looking at the lifepath of a monk
•  Scrooby (S Yorks), looking at the lifepath of the Pilgrim Fathers
•  Malvern Priory, Life of the monks
•  Havering, St Edward.
•  Southend, St Ethelbert

It is an event which can be run on a small or large scale e.g. 1 small primary or several schools run over a number of days.

From a schools point of view Lifepath is appropriate for pupils of all faiths or none. Lifepath is a day trip with special emphasis on RE or spiritual development and provides an opportunity to learn outside the classroom and ties in with the national curriculum. There is a standard format to the day which includes four streams of workshops and opening and closing times together with elements of Collective Worship.
