Over the last year the Lacey Theatre Co have been developing a new programme having piloted it in conjuction with secondary schools in Cardiff. They are looking to launch the scheme in 2009.
“The Story So Far”
An interactive, multimedia performance introducing the big story of the Bible, encouraging learners to ask questions like ‘where do I come from? Who is God? Who is Jesus?’ Learners are asked to become detectives, following the clues on a journey of storytelling, poetry and comedy which collide to reveal the fantastic narrative of the Bible.
WORKSHOPS
Developed by their Drama specialist, over 40 workshops explore the themes of the performance, and RE Syllabus for Key Stage 3&4. Schools can choose to have an RE, Drama or English emphasis. Through these workshops learners are able to unpack the difficult questions, explore for themselves and are encouraged to express themselves creatively whilst asking ‘what does all this mean to me?’ If they’re hungry, they chew it over.
FOLLOW UP
Follow up resources for teachers to use, including lesson plans, assemblies, writing by Rob Lacey, visuals and all sorts of goodies! This could also be used by youth workers in a less formal context.
FREE STREET BIBLES
We have managed to obtain a large number of copies of ‘THE STREET BIBLE’ by Rob Lacey, which are given out to students during the performance - we also have CDs of Rob’s performance available for them. Hopefully, after being involved in the programme students will want to delve deeper, and if they do, the street bible will be at the end of their fingertips.
The Lacey Theatre Co are passionate about communicating the story which can engage, enliven and release young people today, and about meeting them where they are: ie in a postmodern, materialist and instant culture.
