Start Freedom: Stop the Traffik
In September I blogged about a fabulous campaign starting this month called ‘Start Freedom’. It’s a new initiative from our friends at Stop the Traffik, a global schools campaign for young people to become aware of the issues surrounding human trafficking and realise the power to make a difference. The campaign was officially launched from the United Nation Headquarters this week, offering resources that teachers and students can use to explore the issues surrounding trafficking and what they can do to help put a stop to it.
One 15-year-old campaigner said,
“I read about a girl trafficked from the U.K. to Italy, she was forced to work on the streets, beaten, threatened and repeatedly raped. I thought about my life: school, mum and dad, hanging out, parties … freedom.”

Log on to the site here, it’s free to sign up: http://www.stopthetraffik.org/startfreedom/, and you will get access to many fantastic resources for schools, for young people and teachers. There are lesson plans for two separate age groups, 12-14 yrs and 15-18yrs. They cover topics from poverty, human rights, chocolate, to trafficking itself and provide facts, figures and presentations which you can download and use. A brilliant site and I highly recommend getting involved and seeing what your schools, your projects, your young people, can help to do join this campaign and stamp out trafficking. Do it now!
