Finding identity

I’ve got an assembly coming up on Friday (eeek really soon) entitled ‘who are you?’ and wanted to end with a true story about someone who started off making bad choices in life, perhaps living selfishly or uncaringly, and then becoming selfless and caring because of changing circumstances. Any one got anything appropriate?

hey Jane, there’s loads of really great stories on the forgiveness project (http://www.theforgivenessproject.com), maybe there’s something there that will be of help. I had a quick look and you might be interested in the story of Michael Watson (http://www.theforgivenessproject.com/stories/michael-watson), who was a boxer whose goal was to be world champion. He was completely focused on success and money and being a celebrity, but after a fight that went very wrong, he reconsidered what was important to him and life after that looked very different.
Let us know how it goes!

Hi. You could also try http://www.changedlives.info/ which has over 200 true stories of people being changed. They’re very powerful but also about ordinary people.

Thank you for your help people! I ended up using the Michael Watson story and it seemed to go down really well. Year 9 actually looked interested and engaged! For anyone else wanting to add to their collection of story websites I found another one: http://www.storybin.com/index.shtml, some of it is a bit twee but def worth a look.
