Ever wonder what effect your assemblies are having?...

This week I have been presenting the schoolswork.co.uk Easter assembly to each year group at school. I had been slightly apprehensive as to whether or not the young people would be able to grasp the concept of brokenness and Jesus’ ability to heal within a 7 min morning slot, when shadows of sleepiness are still lingering. By the end of the assembly however, I started to sense that my fears had been wrong. There was a contemplative silence that echoed around the hall at the end of the presentation and I received many thoughtful comments from staff. It had gone well. It wasn’t until I returned to the office the following day that I realised the real effect that this simple assembly was having.

Amy, a colleague of mine, had sat next to a girl from my school at a church meeting that same evening. She recognised Amy as my work colleague and a conversation about the assembly resulted. She had remembered clearly the message that Jesus had come to heal the things that were broken and had really enjoyed how it had been presented. More than that though, after the assembly a friend of hers, as a result of the thought provoking assembly, had questioned her on her own faith and asked for her opinion on what she believed about ‘it all.’ She was able to say that she thought it was ‘cool’ and it opened up other conversations between her Christian and non Christian friends. Surely this is the point of assemblies! How encouraging!
