Really looking forward to this. We held one last year based on the film ‘Man Dancin’ (see Resource Toolkit), and this year we’re basing the day on Children of Men. We’re running it at the local arts centre, where there’s a cinema for the screening and several rooms to run sessions in afterwards. Focusing on a few different themes to come out of the film, we’re encouraging students to engage with those in creative ways and to reflect on their own beliefs.
Will let you know how it goes!
We had a great day, lots of strong opinion about the film which was great for getting discussion and debate going. We did a screening of the film which was met with high approval from many of the students, I think they were surprised that a Christian organisation would pick such a film instead of a nice fluffy one to base a day on. The sessions we held - change, belief, messages, hope - had the students reflecting on their views and on how some of these themes related to them in their lives.
We’re making additions to the ‘I need to’ section of the site every month, and ‘I need to plan an RE day’ will be up there in the next few months, so if you have experience/thoughts on this to share, please do comment or email me about that.
Thanks!
I’m doing some 16-19 conference days in the new term, and sometimes people like to see them in action. Let me know if you would like to come and observe. Cheers
